Bikaner Land Sinking

Bikaner Land Sinking: Reports of 70-foot land sinking have recently come from Rajasthan's Bikaner area. Overnight, a bigha or so of land in Lunkaransar, Bikaner, had gone as low as 70 feet. Everyone was shocked to see this pit in the morning. It has been four days since this incident. Why did this piece of land sink? The Geological Survey of India team has been tasked with looking into this. The incident site is currently guarded by police 24 hours a day. Access to the location has been restricted for locals. The surrounding populace is still terrified.

It is noteworthy that on April 16, there was a soil subsidence incident on Dhani Bhopalram Road in the village of Sahajarasar, Bikaner, near Lunkaransar. Over 1.5 bighas of land had fallen to a depth of 70 feet in one location. The local government recently ordered a drone here, and the entire film was captured. This video shows the full land subsidence incident.

Here, the pit has been fenced in following the earth subsidence. Local police and SDM Rajendra Kumar are observably prepared at the location. The SDM acknowledges that during the first one or two days of the Lok Sabha elections, the investigation into this occurrence could not begin. However, a thorough investigation into this problem has now been initiated.

What is the entire Bikaner land subsidence event about?

On April 16, there was a panic among the locals in Bikaner's Lunkaransar tehsil because of soil sinking. This incident happened in a Dhani in the Lunkaransar region's Sahagrasar village. The residents of Dhani Bhopalaram Road were going about their everyday business that day when they noticed that the earth a little distance from Dhani had begun to sink. He lost consciousness as soon as he realized this and called the police right away. Following his receipt of the information, SDM Rajendra Kumar arrived there with the police squad, and drone videography was used to document the entire incident.

For an investigation, geology specialists from Bikaner were contacted.

Roughly 1.5 bigha of land were inundated during this period. The ground is sinking, creating a depression that is roughly 70 feet deep. As of yet, the causes of the land sinking are unknown. Geology specialists from Bikaner were invited in for this. He speculated that the landslide may have happened because of water logging at this location in the past. But even they were unable to produce tangible outcomes. He has suggested that the scientists at the Geological Survey of India look into it.

Election-related delays in investigations

However, due to the Lok Sabha elections, no action has been made on this yet. However, SDM Rajendra Kumar is keeping an eye on the situation and has alerted the district government. Now, a team from the Geological Survey of India will come and investigate the situation; only then will the true cause of the land sinking be discovered. However, as a precaution, fence has been installed around the sunken property, and police personnel have been posted to prevent any unpleasant incidents.

Locals consider it a natural calamity.

While scientists from Bikaner have identified water logging as the cause of ground subsidence, the locals refuse to acknowledge this. They believe this area has been a desert for ages. In such a case, the issue of water accumulating under the earth is not raised. Some consider it a natural calamity, while others believe it is divine retribution. Everyone has their own arguments. However, the scientific basis will be revealed only after an investigation.
